Five Voice Recorders Internal Microphone Shootout

We put together a simple test of all 5 digital voice recorder on their internal microphone.

5 audio recorder internal microphone recording shoot out. A person speaks to 5 voice recorders simultaneously at about 1 foot distance. Recorders are set to 192kbps in MP3 format
 
   Zoom H2n ($180)
   Zoom H1 ($100_
   Olympus DM420 ($75)
   Olympus WS-803 ($145)
   Sony ICDUX523 ($100)

Posted by Vooduex on 6/17/2013 5:58:00 PM Looking at the spectrograph, the H2n has the better overall balance and noise levels. The H1 has a more pronounced midrange between 600Hz and 3500Hz, and a lower bass capture. The DM420 has a higher noise floor and more accentuation above 3500Hz. The Olympus 803 is seriously lacking below 100Hz and above 4KHz. The Sony accentuates the mid & high frequencies, but at the expense of a higher noise floor.
