Just to clarify, does this screw into a standard tripod and then you screw the camera into the adapter and then attach an accessory (such as a Comer 1800) to the top mount?
The reason I ask is because I use a Panasonic GH1 and would like to get a Comer 1800 but would rather not risk screwing it into the fragile GH1.

Yes, you mount this bracket to the tripod quick release. Then you can mount different accessory to this bracket. There're other options you can consider too,
