We designed DVD cover and label using Photoshop. If you have a better workflow, please share!
We created a template moving the content to the top left edge of the page. With some cross mark, I printed out in an Epson printer using Borderless settings to letter size photo paper (Those Kirkland photo paper at Costco are cheap and high quality). Because the content is already on top left, I only need to trim the right and bottom sides to cut out. The insert fits well in DVD case.
For DVD label, DO NOT USE STICKY LABELS. Throughout time, the disc label will start to peel off. There're also many DVD players won't handle the extra weight on the disc and start to spin funny. Get an Epson Stylus Photo printer that can print directly on the DVD. Buy those inkjet printable white DVDs. Get this Taiyo Yuden water sheill white inkjet hug printable DVDs. Hub printing means you can print all the way to the inner 22mm of the disc instead of the regularly 43mm. You have more room for your design, and less tricky to work around the empty inside circle.
We also created a template with the 44mm and 22mm hub mask. After the design is done, flatten the layers then copy and paste to Epson Print CD software.
You can download these templates here. Please leave a comment on how you like these templates.
Thank you for visiting us. Glad you like the DVD templates too.
hey taky, just purchased a new epson 810, and came across some of your posts on dvinfo....how do you setup your printer to print in the center circle of your discs? i'm using t.y. watershield discs.
thanks!
got it!
Thanks Taky.
How can I get these for use without Photoshop? Everyone seems to love them and they look awesome!
I have included a PNG version in the zip file. So you can use it for other graphic editing software.
Thanks for the quick response! I can't seem to find it for the regular DVD. Did see that it was included in the Blu Ray. Also interested to know what font you used on DVD label above, love it!
Jamie, I have added two PNG files of the same DVD template and DVD label to the zip file. However, there won't be any guildlines and all layers are flattened. If you could, see if your graphic editing package can import the PSD files.
These templates are very professional. What kind of printers are you using?

Nathan, thanks for your comment. We use Epson Artisan Photo Printer for the job. However, it's as important to use the right kind of DVD media for the job. Make sure you use the TY JVC watersheild hub printable DVD.
Thanks for posting the templates. My templates from my old SP 900 are WAY off. However, I am experiencing a problem when opening the DVD template in PS CS5 where the disc OD ends up being about 10.5 inches. Any ideas how to make it correct without having to do all of the adjusting on my own?
You will just have to wait till we upgrade to CS5.. We are still on CS4 for now :)
I do some funerals and start to do a couple of wedding videos. However, I am very weak at designing the DVD covers. I search online and can see that you are really great at it. Since I am in OC, close to you in LA, I wonder if I could meet you once to learn a bit about your designing art? Thanks.
Thank you so much for the templates!
Korhan, glad you like the templates.
Thank you, very considerate, much better than the one I made.
Glad we can help.
I was impressed by the cover and label designs.
Thank you for your kind comment.
Thank you very much!!!! this is very useful.
Thank you for your comment Eduard.
Taky, I downloaded your DVD template but I have no idea how to get the photo and text on the template. Can you please explain how it is done with your template.
Bruce
This template is a guidelines for the DVD insert specifications with front, back, and spin label. In that case, the DVD insert can be printed on a letter size paper. You will need to import the template into your design software (e.g. Photoshop). For the rest of the cover design, it will be your job to get it done.
Thanks for turning me on to Taiyo Yuden watershield DVDs, they are superb! And thanks for providing the templates, they are a huge help. :)
thanks a lot for putting these templates together. it is really helpful!
Zia, thanks for your kind comment. I'm glad you are able to make good use of these templates.
Using the Taiyo Yuden watershields on another project and I just have to comment again on how much I appreciate the heads up on these fantastic DVDs. The colors are beautifully saturated and the final product is absolutely professional looking. Out of a cheap inkjet printer. Would never have heard of these DVDs if not for you. Hope your business is doing great! Thanks again!!
Hi Paul, that's great! It's difficult to post picture or take photos to show the difference of regular inkjet printable DVD than the Taiyo Yuden glossy DVD unless to see it in person. Taiyo Yuden is not being acquired by JVC. Thus, they are not some unknown brand anymore :)
Great template! Would be great of you give people like me some info on how to create your own with this template, like how to change color of the spine, how to put images into te front and cover, I just have photoshop cs5, but it is all very difficult for me, could you please help and give some intructions?
Hi Mark, the template here is just to provide accurate measurement for you to design for DVD and BluRay insert. You will still need photoshop skills and your own design talent to get the join done :)
looks great but I cant get the size to print properly as is, I am not sure what to do..
Hi Quincy, the template is designed to be printed with Epson printer with Borderless printing option turn on. Thanks

Re your DVD psd template: I'm confused re the "After the design is done, flatten the layers then copy and paste to Epson Print CD software." bit. I've inserted my pic & text into Photoshop Elements 12, flattened but if I copy n paste or save then import it as a picture in "Epson Print CD v 2.42.00E" it is too small and the outside and inside of the circle which is transparent is Photoshop is BLACK in Epson Print CD. Can you elaborate on the steps you use or point out what I'm doing wrong? Thanks Nigel
I am using an older version of Print CD that allows me to select Edit, Paste, From Clipboard. If you cannot, you can save your design in Photoshop as JPG. Then import to Print CD.
Very helpful, thanks.
Now I just need someone or somewhere with a printer that works with discs.
Many Epson printers can print on DVD directly. Epson XP-630 is less than a $100.
